A / Act of man

This term, used in marine cargo insurance, applies when some part of a ship’s cargo is deliberately sacrificed—typically when a vessel is in distress—to save the remainder of the cargo. The owners of the surviving cargo are each responsible for covering a proportionate share of the losses.
