What is an Automated Manifest System in freight forwarding?

A system operated by the US CBP and a component of the Automated Commercial Environment. The Automated Manifest System controls an imported shipment from the time when the carrier transmits an electronic cargo manifest to the CBP, until the shipment is cleared for entry into the USA.
