What is a liftgate in freight forwarding?

A liftgate is a powered tailgate on the back end of a truck or trailer, which can raise or lower goods hydraulically or electronically when loading or unloading them. It is used to spare the truck driver from excessive manual handling, or to load/unload extremely large or heavy items.
